The Rise of Wrexham AFC: A Modern Football Fairy Tale

Wrexham AFC, a club with a rich history dating back to 1864, has experienced a meteoric rise in recent years, capturing the hearts of football fans worldwide. The club's transformation began in 2021 when Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny took ownership. Their vision and investment have helped propel Wrexham from non-league football to the Championship within just four years.

This incredible journey has not only reignited passion among Wrexham's loyal supporters but also attracted a global fan base eager to witness the club's continued success. The story of Wrexham AFC is a testament to the power of determination, community spirit, and the magic that can happen when the right people come together.

Why Long Island is the Perfect Venue for Wrexham's First International Camp

Long Island, New York, was an ideal location for Wrexham AFC's first international soccer camp. Long Island provides the perfect backdrop for young players to immerse themselves in the world of football. Massapequa Soccer Club is a renowned venue with world-class facilities that are a testament to the town of Oyster Bay under the leadership of Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino.

The collaboration between The Coaching Manual, Wrexham AFC, Massapequa Soccer Club, American Soccer Club New York, and Long Island Junior Soccer League meant that it was a well-organized and professional event. Our local partners bring a wealth of experience and a shared passion for developing young talent, making Long Island a natural choice for this groundbreaking soccer camp.

Meet the Coaches: Training with Wrexham AFC's Elite Staff

One of the most exciting aspects of the Wrexham AFC International Soccer Camp is the opportunity to train with the club's official coaches. These elite staff members bring a wealth of knowledge and experience. Their expertise and enthusiasm provided participants with invaluable insights into the game, helping them develop their skills and understanding of football.

A Day in the Life: What to Expect at the Soccer Camp

The camp was a blast. Many attendees of week one returned for the second week, with many players demanding to stay for the full day.

Each day began with a dynamic warm-up session, followed by skill-building drills and tactical exercises. Players had the chance to participate in small-sided games and match-play scenarios, allowing them to apply what they've learned in a competitive setting. The camp also included regular hydration breaks and a lunch period for full-day campers, ensuring everyone stays energized and focused throughout the day.

The power of movement

"My daughter improved so much in the first week that my college soccer playing wife was amazed by how much stronger she had got physically and technically. Can't wait for next year."

Peter- Massapequa

"My kids had so much fun and worked so hard that there was no problem getting them to bed at night. They have been so much stronger in club training this week after completing the first week at camp. Thank you!"

Kirsten - Amityville

" My daughter won camper of the week. She's never been so enthusiastic about starting her club season. She's raring to go!"

Andy - Farmingdale

Our partners

Paul Biglin, the DOC at Massapequa Soccer Club was immense in providing facilities, staff and support for the camp.

Terry Barton from The Coaching Manual said "Without Paul's support this camp would have been so challenging. But, with his help, we delivered something so memorable and I'm looking forward to returning next year. In fact, I had such a good time with Paul, his staff, John Fitzgerald from LIJSL and Jim Kilmeade from ASC New York, that I'm seriously considering spending the whole summer out here in 2026 - the fact that it coincides with the 2026 World Cup has nothing to do with it...'
