For more than five decades, PYSL Blast has been a cornerstone of the Mission Bay community in San Diego. Founded in 1971, the club has built a proud tradition of volunteer-driven soccer – creating a welcoming environment where players can grow, compete, and thrive both on and off the field.
Now, as part of its commitment to continuous development and community connection, PYSL Blast is partnering with The Coaching Manual – a collaboration that will bring professional coaching resources, structured training tools, and new learning opportunities to its coaches and players.
PYSL Blast serves players born between 2009 and 2017, with 82 recreational and 27 competitive teams. The club’s mission is simple yet powerful: to offer a safe, healthy, and affordable soccer program that develops not just skills, but strong character, leadership, and sportsmanship.
As a nonprofit organization, PYSL Blast is guided by its core values – respect, honesty, teamwork, and self-control – and a deep belief that soccer should be accessible to all.
“Soccer is our platform to help kids develop confidence, leadership, and connection,” says the club’s leadership team. “It’s about much more than the game.”
One of PYSL Blast’s greatest strengths lies in its volunteer-powered foundation. The club remains one of the few fully volunteer-run community soccer leagues in the region, led by people who give their time to nurture youth development.
At the heart of that effort are Director of Coaching, Tiffany Quackenbush, and President of the Board of Directors, Justin Weber, who work with dozens of local coaches and managers to keep the club’s mission alive.
Through its new partnership with The Coaching Manual, PYSL Blast is taking an exciting step toward the future of grassroots soccer.
The Coaching Manual platform allows PYSL Blast to create a personalised curriculum for all of its coaches using Coaching Manual content. It means PYSL coaches can access expert-led session plans, video demonstrations, and coach education resources but with the very specific goal of helping PYSL Blast achieve its broader objectives.

The club proudly supports local events, partners with San Diego Wave FC and San Diego Football Club, and even takes its players abroad – with two PYSL Blast teams traveling to Spain last summer for international competition and cultural exchange.
